U.S. Army Specialist Sean Shields grew up with two certainties: he would follow in the footsteps of his family members and join the United States Military, and he would do so in God’s time.

Shields married his wife, Bree, in 2010, and soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Prayer assured him the timing was right and he reported to his first duty station at Fort Drum.

Shields was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. While overseas, Shields was part of over 70 combat missions, multiple firefights and improvised explosive device (IED) detonations. Shields lost close friends in these battles and incurred injuries to both knees. As a result, Shields has dealt with severe PTSD, and often uses a cane or scooter to get around. These considerations ultimately led him to retire from the military in 2014.

For his fearless service, Shields received an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Service Medal, NATO Medal and Combat Action Badge, among other accolades.

Shields and his wife currently live in Buckeye, Arizona. The couple enjoys making music together, fishing and doing art projects. Additionally, the two dedicate much of their time to helping other veterans and their families practice healthy habits. Bree is also a caregiver advocate for military and non-military outlets.

Operation FINALLY HOME along with Miramonte Homes are thrilled to provide the Shields family with a custom-built, mortgage-free home located in Warrior Village in Tucson, Arizona.
