The Lugo Family
Luis was first deployed to a war zone just six months after enlisting in the U.S. Army, proudly serving in Iraq with 101st Airborne Division in 2007. Returning home safely, he found and married the love of his life, Louise. In 2010, just days after the birth of their son Isaac, Luis was deployed overseas once again, this time to Afghanistan.
Only days after his arrival, he was setting up a defense perimeter for his unit when a remote-detonated IED cost him his left leg. In his military career, Luis earned two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and a Purple Heart. Today, Luis lives in Albuquerque, N.M., where he is a devoted family man who “thanks Louise every day for being by my side.”
